Announces Stronghold: The Apache-SSL-US for NEXTSTEP Cedarburg, Wisconsin - April 17, 1996 - SmartSoft, Inc. has announced that it will distribute the NEXTSTEP version of Stronghold: The Apache-SSL-US. Stronghold is a high-performance encrypting webserver put together by Community ConneXion, Inc., of Berkeley, CA. This webserver provides commercial strength encryption that is fully compatible with Netscape Navigator Secure Socket Layer, the software encryption protocol behind the Netscape Commerce Server and the Netscape Browser. Stronghold provides a cost-effective alternative to servers providing similar capabilities from Netscape Communications Corp. at a lower cost, and with increased functionality such as: support for virtual hosts (the server can support multiple certificates per server), API Extensibility, tools for building private Certificate Authorities for installations which need to maintain high security and confidentiality with support for SSL-X.509 Client Authentication. For commercial applications, VeriSign is issuing Digital IDs for a small fee for the Apache-SSL-US web server. This provides increased assurance to customers, since the security certificate is certified by VeriSign. Source code and libraries are available for building customized versions of the server with an easy to use modular extension API. Apache itself is the most popular webserver on the Internet. Product Pricing and Availability Apache-SSL-US is available now for all currently supported NEXTSTEP platforms, within the United States and Canada. * Licenses are $495/server (free for non-commercial users).
